World 2 Star Coins - New Super Mario 2 Guide - IGN (2024)

This page contains the location of every Star Coin in World 2 of New Super Mario Bros. 2.

WORLD 2-1

Star Coin 1

Before the checkpoint, there are four block platforms that rotate 180 degrees back and forth. When the upper-right one is horizontal at 270 degrees, jump onto it. When it moves upward, jump to the right and you'll land on a thin platform. You may well even pick up the Star Coin before you see it (as per the above image).

Star Coin 2

Right after the checkpoint, there is a yellow pipe. Enter it and grab the Golden Flower. Using it, shoot all the blocks and proceed to the right. Be careful when destroying the blocks on the ground near the star coin as you need to leave a route up to it.

Star Coin 3

After leaving that area through the pipe, head a little to the left. There you should see the last Star Coin being protected by a Paratroopa.Jump up the rotating platforms and blast the Paratroopa with your Golden Flowertoclaim the last coin.

Star Coin 1

Head right, and eventually you'll see a Hammer Broon a platform of blocks. Luckily, right before him is a Koopa Troopa. Jump on it to get a shell, and throw it at the Hammer Bro so you can safely take the first Star Coin.

Star Coin 2

After the checkpoint, you will come to two totem poles that look like arrows pointing upwards. Fall down between them and enter the yellow pipe. Inside you will see two Boomerang Bros. The second Star Coin is between them. Carefully dodge their attacks, or kill them asFire Mario.

Star Coin 3

Shortly after you emerge from the pipe, you'll come across as sign with an arrow pointing upwards. Take the elevator platform up and avoid the Hammer Bro and Boomerang Bro.After climbing all the way up, head left and jump up to take the last Star Coin.

Star Coin 1

You won't find any Star Coins until you reach the checkpoint. Just afterwards you'll see two platforms that move up and down. Jump on the Buzzy Beetle to get its shell, and climb on the bottom platform to throw it at the POW Block. If you miss, just head left a little and return and the Buzzy Beetle will reset. Once you hit the POW Block, you'll then be able to enter the lower pipe. Wait for the Piranha Plants to retract, and fall down the left shaft to reach the first Star Coin.

Star Coin 2

After leaving that area, you can find the second Star Coin to the left. Grab a Buzzy Beetle shell and take it all the way back to the left. Throw it at the exposed POW Block and make your way to the Star Coin. You can also use Raccoon Mario to hit the block if you have a Super Leaf.

Star Coin 3

Later in the level, there are three lifts that move up and down. When the middle platform is at its highest point, run and jump to the right and onto the blocks. From here, carefully jump across the platforms without falling to grab the last Star Coin.

WORLD 2-Tower

Star Coin 1

The first Star Coin is procured by riding on top of the moving wall at the top left. Crouch and it'll carry you into the small cubby hole where the coin lies.

Star Coin 2

A short way after the checkpoint you'll see a door on your left. Enter it to find an area with moving platforms. Ride the large square block on the left, then jump over to the tall rectangle in the middle, and finally take the small square block on the left to grab the second Star Coin.

Star Coin 3

Before the door to the boss, there are spiked columns that descend from above. When the left column is all the way down, wall-kick your way up. Then, when all the pillars are down, run and jump to the right to grab the last Star Coin. Hurry, otherwise you'll be squashed against the ceiling.

WORLD 2-Haunted House

Star Coin 1

A short time after Boohemoth starts chasing you, you'll find a blue/purple block that moves left and right. Jump on it and wait until it is all the way to the right. From here, wall jump up and off the screen, fall to the right and grab the first Star Coin. Alternatively, turn to face Boohemoth from the platform to the right of the coin, then run and leap up to the left. You'll have to be quick to get out before Boohemoth arrives, mind.

Star Coin 2

Shortly after that, there's a platform that falls slowly when you stand on it. Wait until it goes all the way down - remembering to face Boohemoth so he doesn't advance too far - and you simply need to jump up to the ledge to grab the second Star Coin.

Star Coin 3

A little later on, the ground will turn into a trampoline, bouncing Mario up into the air. The last Star Coin is at the very top of the screen, flying around in a circle. There are 5 coins lined up vertically to guide you, though you might find you bounce into it by happy accident.

Star Coin 1

The first Star Coin can be found as you clamber up the right side of one of the pyramids. It's through a narrow passageway, so you'll need to slide under the low ceiling to get to it.

Star Coin 2

After the checkpoint, you'll find a yellow pipe at the bottom of a pyramid. At the very bottom of this room is the second Star Coin. Destroy the Brick Block and walk straight to the right, being careful to avoid the Goombas. Mario will fall down and ride the platform to the bottom where the coin awaits. Note: if you have a Super Leaf, you can grab as many lives as you want by bouncing on the Goombas' heads. They'll keep coming from that pipe on the right, so you can keep it up until you run out of time or get bored.

Star Coin 3

Near the end of the level, there is a pit with coins that leads to a yellow pipe. Don't go down that just yet, as it takes you to the flagpole. Go past it and down into the cubby hole to the right to grab the third Star Coin.

Star Coin 1

A little way into the level, you'll come to a Chain Chomp in front of a column of Brick Blocks. Ground-pound the peg holding the Chain Chomp in place while it's facing to the right. It will smash through the blocks before disappearing off the bottom of the screen, leaving you free to grab the Star Coin at your leisure. Note: You can also destroy the blocks with Racoon Mario; just be careful of the Chain Chomp.

Star Coin 2

Later, you'll see one Chain Chomp attached to a really long peg. A few (careful) ground-pounds) is enough to release the Chomp, which allows the platform it was bouncing around on to sink, leading you to a red pipe. Avoid the Chomps inside and work your way up to the top of the room to grab the second Star Coin.

Star Coin 3

Shortly after the checkpoint you'll see some yellow platforms. Make your way down to the bottom, avoiding the patrolling Chomp, to grab the last coin.

Star Coin 1

The first Star Coin is above two block platforms that will rotate vertically when you approach them. Stand on the right-hand one and jump to the left to reach the coin.

Star Coin 2

Right after the checkpoint there is a? block with a springboard inside. Grab this and carry it onto the moving platform that's taking you through the level. You'll soon see the second Star Coin flying in a circle at the top of the screen. Place the springboard down, and use it to bounce up to grab the coin.

Star Coin 3

For the last Star Coin, you'll need the springboard again. You'll see a suspicious-looking red pipe at the top of the screen that can only be hiding something. Hop on the springboard to enter the pipe. When inside, hit the block on the far left to reveal a P-Switch. Jump through the coin outlines to turn them into platforms, from which you can leap up to the final Star Coin. Note: You can jump through the coin oulines before you hit the P-switch. That way, you will have more time to get the Star Coin.

Star Coin 1

When you're riding the lifts up and to the right, you'll notice the fifth one passes by another lift just slightly above. Jump onto this one and ride it to the left. You'll need to jump onto another lift to take the first Star Coin.

Star Coin 2

The second Star Coin is right before the checkpoint. You'll need a Koopa shell to get it. Ride the lift, and throw the shell after you land on safe ground to grab the coin.

Star Coin 3

Immediately after the checkpoint there is another lift that flies back and forth. When it is at its highest point, jump onto the lift that's above and slightly to the left. Keep riding the lifts all the way up to the static platform where a P-Switch lies. Hit it to turn the coins into Brick Blocks, then leap on the lift, and cross the blocks before they turn back to get to the last Star Coin.

Star Coin 1

The first Star Coin is directly under two cannons shootingBob-ombs. Jump on theBob-ombs and throw or kick them into place to destroy the blocks in the way of the coin.

Star Coin 2

The next Star Coin can be found right after the checkpoint. You'll come to a sand pit with coins in it. Don't worry about falling off the screen as it'll take you to another room with a miniature volcano inside. Use a Bob-omb to blow the top open and it'll spray smaller coins while releasing the Star Coin. Pick it up and climb up the pipe to the right.

Star Coin 3

You'll find the last Star Coin soon afterwards. It's high in the air, positioned over a sand pit with a Pokey inside of it. The only way to get high enough to reach it is to bounce off one of the Bob-ombs the cannon is firing. Stand on the cannon and when it shoots out a Bob-omb, quickly jump off it onto the Bob-omb, which should give you the extra spring you need to reach the coin.
