Each map in Bloons TD 6 has three different difficulty levels — easy, medium, and hard. Each level also has a few different types of game modes you can play to earn a new ribbon, and they each have their own specific rules to follow, providing an additional challenge to the standard gameplay. Below, you'll find a list of all the different game modes you'll encounter.

Sandbox

This mode is available on every level and every map. You get to choose which towers as well as which bloons come out and you have an extremely high starting budget and amount of lives - 9,999,999. This allows you to test out what may be best for specific situations you are struggling with.

Easy Game Modes

When playing a map on easy difficulty, aside from the standard option and the sandbox available in every difficulty, there are two other game modes (Primary Only and Deflation) you can earn ribbons in. You have 200 lives and have to get through 40 rounds.

Deflation

The rounds are the same as the standard game but you start at 31 instead of one. You’re given a lump sum of cash, 20,000, but popping bloons won’t give you additional cash.

Primary Only

This only allows you to use primary towers and your hero tower throughout the 40 rounds. These towers include:

  • Dart Monkey
  • Boomerang Monkey
  • Bomb Shooter
  • Tack Shooter
  • Ice Monkey
  • Glue Gunner

Medium Game Modes

Make the rounds a little more difficult with only 150 lives to get through 60 rounds in medium difficulty. The additional game modes here include Military Only, Reverse, and Apopalypse.

Apopalypse

This is a continual stream of bloons coming at you with no breaks. You have to be ready to place towers mid-battle. There’s no pause in the beginning so if you want to front-load your towers you’ll have to do it quickly. It’s 60 rounds of non-stop bloons.

Military Only

Similar to the Primary Only mode, Military Only will offer just military towers alongside your hero. This leaves you with:

  • Sniper Monkey
  • Monkey Sub
  • Monkey Buccaneer
  • Monkey Ace
  • Heli Pilot
  • Mortar Monkey
  • Dartling Gunner

Reverse

The biggest change in reverse is as it sounds. The bloons float through the map the opposite way they normally come in. This can change the way you want to set up your towers to get more early hits. It also means that the bloons come in reverse order from normal.

Hard Game Modes

When you reach hard difficulties you have even more game mode choices. This includes Alternate Bloons Rounds, Impoppable, Chimps, Magic Monkeys Only, Double HP MOABs, and Half Cash. Typically you’ll have 100 lives and 80 rounds.

Alternate Bloons Rounds

After so long of playing you start to get used to what bloons to expect. In Alternate Bloons Rounds you have less idea of what’s coming up within each round. It gives you less time to prepare for later game things like camo and lead bloons because you never know when they might show up.

CHIMPS

The name of this game mode tells more than meets the eye. It’s an acronym for everything you have to get through 100 rounds without. No continues, hearts, income, monkey knowledge, powers, or selling. This is very similar to Impoppable

Double HP MOABs

The Double HP MOABs round is just as it sounds. The already more difficult MOAB bloons are given a buff of extra HP making them harder to kill. Focusing on MOAB defenses and quick attacks will be crucial to making sure you can get the bloons popped before they escape.

Half Cash

Half Cash doesn’t only apply to your starting cash, it also applies to your income from towers and popping bloons. This means you need to be extra careful with your money, making the most of cheap towers to make it through 80 rounds.

Impoppable

You have only one life. If any bloons get through you have to start all over. You begin at round 6 and have to make it all the way through without any mistakes, and if that wasn't tough enough, everything costs more. In addition, MOAB health and speed is increased beyond round 80. You will not be able to use any bonuses to gain lives. As you get closer to the end you’ll face not only DDT MOAB bloons but also one BAD bloon.

Magic Monkeys Only

With only the hero and magic towers available, you’ll have to go through rounds 3-80 with only 100 lives. Many of the magic monkeys have effects that empower other towers around them, looking through which towers have these abilities will help you play off their strengths. The magic monkeys include:

  • Wizard Monkey
  • Super Monkey
  • Ninja
  • Alchemist
  • Druid
